SOS: Day 24
Day 24
Exercise’s a bore.

So bored he never even got on the dreadmill? Self-portrait by Joseph Ducreux, 1783. Yawn! Courtesy, Getty Images.
Not if you’re a tennis player or a bicyclist who loves racing or a rabid snowboarder. But I’m none of those and if you agreed with my headline, neither are you. The outlook is grim, right? Yes and no.
The best way to keep motivated is to find a sport you genuinely enjoy. When I took up racquetball for a while, I didn’t mind getting up at 5 am to go to a gym.
But if you’re not in love with exercise, the prescription is distraction: watch television (I work out during my favorite evening news programs), put on music (see Day 5), read books (adjustable font size on electronic readers like the Kindle helps), listen to audiobooks, and yes, even write blog posts while on the dreadmill. I’m doing it right now. Excuse the typos.
I’m a big fan of the Air Desk, a simple but sturdy adjustable tray that allows me to surf on my notebook computer while I step. (More about treadmill computing in later posts. You’ll be amazed at the ingenuity of it).
