SOS: Day 7

Day 7
All is forgiven.

Cover of Courtney Rubin's book.

OK, you’re not at your goal weight, you skipped your exercise class yesterday, you binged on chocolate, and you had three beers. That was then. This is now. Let it go every morning. All is forgiven. You start fresh every day. It doesn’t mean you don’t try; it just means that if you had a little splurge, you don’t give up. Instead, you get up and you do better today.

How about this for a great book title:

The Weight-Loss Diaries: A Tale of Binges, Guilt, Fat Days, New-Me Shopping Sprees, Exercise, More Binges, and How I Learned to Deal With My Lifelong Weight-Loss Struggle

According to Amazon, it’s a memoir about “the long, relentless learning process” of dieting, recounted “in a voice that’s often sarcastic and self-deprecating but always sincere.” I’ve been reading this book by Courtney Rubin. More on it later. (P.S. You think you have it bad? She was over 200 lbs and working at Shape magazine.)

  1. Hello,
One of the best books I’ve seen about weight loss is this one:

    http://www.thebigskinnybook.com/

    Anna

  2. I checked this out, Anna, and love its message and spirit. Ordered it so I can do a thorough review. Thanks!

  3. You are welcome! I really like that ipod app for home routines you recommended. There is another one I’ve been using to track the calories on, “Lose it!” When I got out of the habit of keeping track of calories, my weight started creeping back up… which will NOT be happening, lol. Have a great day :)

  4. Thanks for telling me about Lose It. I agree that tracking calories is important. I will be introducing that habit later on in SOS. Didn’t want to overwhelm and lose people too soon.

  5. Anna, The Big Skinny came. It’s wonderful! All the right messages, presented in such an engaging way. Thanks.

  6. Oh, I’m so glad you like it! I have this picture of me from “Bring Your Child to Work Day” when I brought my son to the surgery where I work. He had a wonderful time the whole day and I was proud of having a rockin’ job for him to come to. He had even gotten to see a tonsillectomy earlier, and we are sitting in the break room, all smiles–and someone took that picture and sent it to my email. It took me a second to figure out who that fat woman was sitting there with my son! Carol Lay might have well have written her book just for me… it was just exactly what I wanted and needed.

As is your site, BTW. :)

ps: I downsized all my stuff at the same time as I was losing weight (!!! – wow) and I see that the stuff is slowly creeping back in and the weight *had been*! creeping back up. This time, I have tools that I know work. Thanks again for your awesome site!

  7. I know what you mean about photos. I was just at an event where a number of photos were taken and I felt like…who is that old cow with the extra chin? And why is she wearing my clothes? I find the correspondence between clutter and weight so fascinating. The forums on unclutterer.com have me thinking that I’ll start a Throw Out a Thing a Day section here or something similar.
