SOS: Day 21

Day 21
It’s about the long run.

Aesop's Fable illustration by Milo Winter.

If you think you’re not losing weight quickly enough with incremental SOS changes, then maybe you’ll want to do it the “fast” way.

“Hey,” anonymous woman notes,”I like your website, but I won’t be able to lose enough weight by summer. You should tell your readers to try the South Beach diet. I lost a lot of weight on that four years ago.”

“Excellent,” says I, “so you’re happy with how you’re eating.”

“Well, no. I fell off the wagon and gained weight, but then the second time I did it I got down to the same weight as when I was in my twenties!”

“Nice,” says I, “so you’re happy with your current weight.”

“Duh, no…” And now she’s studying me like I’m an idiot. “That’s why I need to do South Beach again. I want to look better for my vacation in June and it works really fast.”

Fast. She started four years ago. And she’s “fatter than ever.” Her words, not mine. I think I’ll stick with the slow way. How about you?

(By the way, I have nothing against South Beach, Zone, Mediterranean, whatever, whatever….as long as these are lifestyle and dietary choices you can either maintain forever, or use as temporary kick-starts* on your way to long-term healthy changes.)

*We will give you some choices for kick-starting weight loss later in the program.
