Scientific studies have shown again and again that music has a positive effect not only on mood, but on exercise efficiency–you actually require less oxygen when you use music as your motivator. Music also has been shown to keep you from quitting when the going gets tough; it seems to distract you from your pain. In one study, this effect resulted in a 10 percent reduction in perceived effort during treadmill running. An article from Live Science goes deeper, but for our purposes, let’s just crank up the tunes when we work out.
