Create: Day 33

Day 33
Waiting until you’re a retiree.

How many times will you convince yourself that you’ll get started on that special creative project as soon as you finish _______________(graduate school, your latest presentation at work, shopping for Father’s Day, you fill in the blank). It’s so easy to put things off.

Before you know it, the years will pass, and then what will you say? You’ll talk yourself into waiting until you retire–when, after all, you’ll have so much free time.

No you won’t. Then you’ll have a garage to clean out.  And a cruise to take. And grandkids to play with.

Why is it so much easier to come up with excuses to procrastinate than to just get started? The mind is an amazing thing. Habithackers, I’m only saying to you what I’ve been saying to myself. Because I’ve been there. I am there. Someday never comes.

Here’s my idea. I know that at this minute you’re right in the middle of something important and you just stopped by the website for a second. No matter. Do something for me. Set your timer for 11 minutes (or 5 minutes or even 3 minutes) and be creative. Right now. No fanfare. No setting things up. Sketch a dress pattern. Dream up a plot. Make some squiggles on paper. Just don’t wait.
