SOS: Day 39
Day 39
It doesn’t go in a straight line.
I spent last week at an out-of-town conference. Up early to get in the van that took me from hotel to classroom. Lecture, then standing. Eating, eating, eating big lunch brought in. Lecture then standing. Eating, eating, eating cheese and drinking wine during evening classroom review. Van to late dinner. Eat, eat, talk, sit. Van to hotel. Exhaustion and bed. Up early to do it all over again.
What do you think happened to my exercise program? Other than one night when I got back to the hotel early enough to jump on the treadmill, nada exercise.
If you’ve been following the My Pigsty postings, you know my weight had been steadily going down. Ooops. Bump in the road.
The point is, sometimes it happens: a straight downward weight loss trend is interrupted. Maybe it’s because you went out of town, like I did. Or you got sick. Or you had a temporary revolt. Even if you continued to be regular in your work outs, you will inevitably reach the well-known plateau.
It’s tempting at such times to say screw it all and pass the beer. Don’t.
Your lifestyle changes are for life. A week of wrongs can be righted by next week’s re-dedication to your goals. A month of missteps don’t mean the end of There are ups and downs on the road to getting healthy. But this is process. What goes up must come down. And you’re the one who can make it happen.
If I can do it, so can you.
